Since 2019, INTERSOS Hellas is active implementing partner of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) within the project HELIOS (Hellenic Integration Support for Beneficiaries of International Protection).
The project aims at promoting the integration of recognized refugees in the Greek society increasing the prospects of beneficiaries towards self- reliance, and self-determination while establishing access to its integration mechanism for those residing in temporary accommodation schemes.
The program includes the following components:
- integration courses: through Helios integration learning centers and in cycles of 6 months the courses include modules of Greek language, cultural orientation job and life skills development.
- accommodation support: supporting beneficiaries towards independent living, supporting the access in the housing market with rental subsidies and networking with apartment owners;
- employability support: individual employability and job readiness support through job counseling, access to professional certifications networking with employers;
- integration monitoring, and consistent sensitization of the host community through media engagement and workshops and events.
Through its work, INTERSOS Hellas supports its beneficiaries’ access to independent living facilitating the processes of rental scouting, liaison with landlords, as well through providing rental subsidies, and move-in costs contributions.
