FOOD FOR ALL
The Greek Forum of Migrants with the support of INTERSOS, has launched since December 2021 a new initiative in order to support the vulnerable groups of the population under the name “Food for All”.
Τhe goal of the “Food for All” project is to address the primary need of the most vulnerable groups of migrants and refugees living under precarious conditions in Athens, ensuring their nutritional survival.
The urgent need for comprehensive support is underscored by the stark contrast between the benefits available to Greek citizens and the exclusion faced by refugees and migrants, even those officially under international protection. These individuals often struggle or are unable to obtain residence permits, which hinders their access to the job market, and social benefits, and exacerbates the obstacles they face in finding housing. The complete absence of integration policies, which entails the lack of housing, food, medical care, and legal support, contributes to the growing frustration among these groups, leading them to marginalization.
The survival of these vulnerable groups requires their daily access to basic necessities, such as food. The “Food for All” project aims to meet the most basic human need, food, regardless of the legal status of the individual. Food insecurity is an adverse condition with multiple implications that no person should experience. The project has successfully managed to address the urgent needs of vulnerable migrant and refugee families in Greece, offering support to those excluded from benefits and social assistance, facing barriers to employment, and grappling with the impending threat of homelessness.
The “Food for All” initiative is part of the Greek Forum of Refugees’ (GFR) and INTERSOS Hellas’ Feeding Program for Migrants/Refugees within a community approach to addressing emergency situations in the mainland program, supported by Stichting Vluchteling – SV (Dutch Refugee Foundation).
