Programme context

The HELIOS+ programme aims to support the integration of third country nationals, beneficiaries of International Protection and beneficiaries of Temporary Protection in Greece, through a holistic approach that integrates their access to education, the labour market and vocational training and is implemented in the framework of the National Strategy for Social Integration of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum.

The programme will be implemented in the Region of Thessaly, by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the contribution of INTERSOS Hellas and the Municipality of Larissa. In particular, HELIOS+ will include actions such as:

  • Strengthening and facilitating access to the labour market through job counselling
  • Strengthening the ability of the beneficiaries to live independently through the learning of the Greek language.
  • Supporting beneficiaries during the stages of the integration process and promoting their interaction with local communities and their autonomous access to social and public services.
  • Strengthening independent living through the provision of housing support.
  • Raising awareness among host communities and stakeholders for the social and labour integration of beneficiaries.

Subject of work?

The Housing Ombudsman plays a critical role in the successful integration of beneficiaries into the local community, ensuring that they have access to appropriate housing options. His main task is to find apartments available for rent in the intervention area and update the relevant databases. Under the supervision of the Social Inclusion Officer, the responsibilities of the Apartment Search Ombudsman include, but are not limited to:

  • Identification of available rental properties that meet predefined suitability criteria.
  • Contacting property owners and managers to facilitate housing for beneficiaries.
  • Verification of the suitability of properties based on prescribed requirements and formal checks.
  • Maintain and update mapping of available properties to support the implementation of the action.
  • Working with IOM staff to tailor the search for available properties to the individual needs and characteristics of each beneficiary’s profile.
  • Organization of individual and collective information actions to raise awareness on housing issues.
  • Work with the project team to address any housing related challenges.
  • Ensuring that beneficiaries have access to safe, affordable and sustainable housing.

 

Main Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Social Inclusion Officer, the responsibilities of the Apartment Search Facilitator include, but are not limited to:

Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or other related field
  • A relevant postgraduate degree or specialisation will be considered an additional qualification
  • At least one (1) year of experience in relevant work with vulnerable groups in the humanitarian sector/NGOs
  • Experience in housing and/or social support.
  • Ability to map and locate properties based on specific criteria.
  • Detail-oriented and tailored to the needs of the beneficiaries.
  • Familiarity with local real estate markets and legislation related to rentals.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken knowledge of Greek and English
  • Excellent computer skills
