Purpose/objective of the position:

The mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) strategy aims to ensure that INTERSOS beneficiaries have access to high quality services based on the promotion and treatment of mental health concerns with focus on vulnerable women, girls and PWSN. The psychologist will be responsible for providing evidence based preventative and curative services to people suffering with mental health concerns currently living in Lesvos new campsite Mavrovouni and in the surrounding sites. The psychologist will provide psychological interventions on an individual and group sessions context, based on the client’s needs and presenting complaints. S/he will enhance the individual and collective well-being and ensure that vulnerable people are safeguarded from harm. S/he will conduct MHPSS outreach, awareness and psycho-educational activities.


The psychologist will coordinate referrals to third party services. The psychologist will also be responsible for conducting appropriate referrals to a psychiatrist if needed and protection services.

Programme Quality and Specific tasks

Adhere to internationally recognized best practices for evidence based psychological support. This includes ensuring the confidentiality of clients and respecting their decisions;

Establish a safe space to conduct private and confidential sessions acceptable to those on the site and safely accessible by women and children as necessary.

Provide age-appropriate culturally relevant individual and/or group psychological counselling for the hosted population

Support the client(s) coping process and mobilize their internal and external resources for processing extreme adversity;

Conduct follow-up sessions as needed to track down beneficiaries progress

Identify concerns related to and support adherence to referral protocols and guiding principles for gender-based violence and child protection, and bring these concerns to the Project Manager.

Maintain an effective working relationship and regular communication with INTERSOS Protection Team.

Maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including referral organizations community groups and other implementing partners;

Monitoring and Reporting

Compile weekly reports to share with Project Manager


Undertake weekly monitoring meetings with MHPSS Supervisor


Updating daily the MHPSS and referral database.


Complete daily data collection according to guidance provided.


Collaborate with the rest of the team to exchange information and ensure that all INTERSOS protection services are responding to the evolving needs of clients.

Compiling the additional documentation and reports needed.



Perform any other tasks as may be requested or required by the job


Reporting Requirements


As per main duties outlined above the Psychologist will

  • Attend weekly MHPSS meetings together with other Colleagues
  • Attend weekly protection meetings together with other colleagues
  • MHPSS task forces or working groups organized externally
  • Attend General Meetings


As per required the Psychologist should be copied in relation to

  • General Team issues
  • General sector issues
  • MHPSS Activity issues
  • Specific updates in relation to the client

–     Relevant Protection Issues


Past experience and skills:

  • Psychology degree and license to practice is Mandatory. Master degree is preferable.
  • At least 1-year experience providing psychological support to refugee population
  • Experience in conducting assessments and creating individual case plans
  • Knowledge of IASC MHPSS in emergencies guidelines
  • Experience with GBV survivors is considered an asset
  • Native Greek speaker, fluent in English both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of French is considered as an asset
  • Computer skills: knowledge of MS Office and competence with data management and data inputs in IT platforms
