WORLD DAY AGAINST RACISM<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the covid era<\/strong><\/p>\n

The World Day against Racism <\/strong>(International Day for the Elimination of Racial<\/p>\n

Discrimination), on Sunday, 21st of March <\/strong>, the Greek Forum of Migrants <\/strong>, for a 7th<\/strong><\/p>\n

year in a row <\/strong>, is calling for all groups <\/strong>that are currently being discriminated and<\/p>\n

affected by racism to raise their voices <\/strong>and to declare their determination to fight all<\/p>\n

kinds of racism and humiliation of human dignity.<\/p>\n

Our lives are now marked by the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. And they are worse<\/p>\n

marked, every day, by the increasing discrimination against all vulnerable social groups.<\/p>\n

The period of the pandemic highlighted the already existing discrimination<\/strong><\/p>\n

against vulnerable groups and at the same time deepened it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A ray of light <\/strong>in this dark times is the indiscriminate support, by means of solidarity, to<\/p>\n

any person who lacks the basics, who needs a plate of food, a roof, up to the most<\/p>\n

valuable nowadays but also necessary medical help.<\/p>\n

This year, again, we are not marching but we support and send a strong message<\/strong><\/p>\n

that today, as never before, non-discriminatory access to protection and safety is<\/p>\n

non-negotiable<\/p>\n

We unite our voices with communities, bodies, NGO and representatives from wider<\/p>\n

groups affected by discrimination <\/strong>and racism <\/strong>( PWD, LGBTQI, Roma, migrants,<\/strong><\/p>\n

refugees, HIV positive, elderly, drug addicts, people with mental illness, prisoners<\/strong><\/p>\n

Religion minorities, etc. <\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Together, we send a message of support through social media and urge all people to<\/strong><\/p>\n

seek non-discriminatory support and action in vulnerable groups <\/strong>in their<\/p>\n

community, in their neighborhoods and to support in any way possible the precious<\/p>\n

hotbeds of solidarity in Greece.<\/p>\n

The closure of the WAD 2020 will happen, as every year, with the Award Ceremony of<\/p>\n

Antiracism – Tzanetos Antypas <\/strong>award to an organization or a person for its<\/p>\n

contribution to the dealing with the issues of anti-racism and human rights. This year,<\/p>\n

the Organizing Committee of the WAD2020 decided to pass the award from the Union<\/strong><\/p>\n

of Press Photographers Greece <\/strong>– EFE <\/strong>, that was awarded last year, to more than one<\/p>\n

relevant actions from Athens, Thessaloniki, etc. like Allos Anthropos , Khora , Oikopolis ,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Annapurna\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>, and many more.<\/p>\n

It is a movement of symbolic character and support to all those ventures that endure, in<\/p>\n

adverse conditions, in order to support their work daily, vulnerable social groups, which<\/p>\n

are affected and endangered more than ever in the midst of a pandemic. Our message,<\/p>\n

however, is to urg e the broader support of every group, body, organization and<\/strong><\/p>\n

action that actively promotes solidarity with the most marginalized and at-risk<\/strong><\/p>\n

groups, thus making a decisive contribution against discrimination and racist<\/strong><\/p>\n

violence <\/strong>, in defense of human rights, even at the risk of their lives.<\/p>\n

* The award was established in 2017 in the memory of the activist and founder of<\/em><\/p>\n

PRAKSIS organization, Tzanetos Antypas, where each year an organization or a<\/em><\/p>\n

person working on issues of anti-racism and human rights is awarded.<\/em><\/p>\n
