Points of first reception and disembarkation of displaced populations are critical points for the timely identification and protection of potential victims.

PIHMAC – Prevent Human Trafficking is a European project that aims to strengthen the prevention of human trafficking, early identification of potential victims and more effective cooperation between stakeholders at key entry points to Europe.

The project is implemented through a multi-level approach combining awareness raising, development of training tools, strengthening the skills of frontline professionals and promoting international cooperation. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of human-centred, rights-based and trauma-informed approaches, with the aim of protecting the rights and dignity of potential victims.

In the framework of the project, common information tools and specialised training programmes are developed for professionals working at first contact points with migrant populations, such as health personnel, law enforcement officials, coast guards, reception workers and civil society organisations. The trainings focus on recognising indicators of human trafficking, understanding specific vulnerabilities, safe and timely referrals, and strengthening coordination between services and organisations.

INTERSOS Hellas actively contributes to the implementation of the project in Greece, developing and adapting training packages for frontline professionals, with particular emphasis on the protection of unaccompanied minors and other vulnerable groups, cultural mediation, the identification of signs of human trafficking and protection and referral procedures. At the same time, the organisation participates in knowledge exchange, networking and cooperation activities with European and international partners.

The project is implemented by an international consortium of organisations led by the Italian Red Cross (CRI) and involving INTERSOS Hellas, the Spanish Red Cross (CRE), IROKO Onlus and Weavers of Hope, strengthening cooperation between organisations, public authorities and communities with the common goal of preventing and combating human trafficking.

T2.2 Design of New Training Packages Directed to Relevant Stakeholders at Disembarkation Points (Greece)

PIHMAC – Prevent Human Trafficking Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) is one of the most serious forms of human rights violations, disproportionately affecting people who are displaced, displaced, socially excluded or highly vulnerable.
