On the anniversary of the 1st year of the #Together program, Kathimerini and journalist Ioanna Fotiadis spoke with beneficiaries of the program and recorded their stories with a reference point of what the program has offered to refugees and immigrants, but also to employers as well as INTERSOS Hellas‘s support for accessibility to work for those who need it with the ultimate goal of their holistic integration to Greek society.

Efthymios Tromboukis, Director of Programs at INTERSOS Hellas, reports that “Until the end of July, 73 recruitments had been made in tourism and catering (34), industry (19), retail (9), etc. 478 people have already participated, while 181 interviews have been carried out.”

By August 20, another 7 had been added to the above contracts. This was preceded by actions to inform the refugees in the hosting and temporary reception structures of Epirus, specialized workshops on writing a Resume, issuing the required documents, the working environment in Greece, as well as the preparation for a job interview.

“I am happy, I had a daily life full of stress before. It’s the first job of my life, I didn’t even know how to cut an onion before. Now I am familiar with the preparation of a variety of international dishes, but also Greek cuisine. In the winter I plan to continue high school, so that after that I can attend an IEK to become a chef. Of course, I need to receive a positive response from the Asylum Service first.”

20-year-old Muanga Dinal George Yann from Congo, works as an assistant in the kitchen of the “Frontzou Politia” restaurant in Ioannina, Greece.
